If you’re a Windows user, then you know that there’s a lot of ways to customize your browser. You can change the look and feel of your browser, add features, or even uninstall features. But if you’re like me, you also want to be able to customize IE9 in ways that are difficult or impossible to do with other browsers. That’s where IE9 Tweaker Plus comes in. This tool allows you to easily customize IE9 in ways that are difficult or impossible to do with other browsers. You can change the look and feel of your browser, add features, or even uninstall features. And best of all, it’s free! So if you’re looking for a way to customize IE9 in ways that are difficult or impossible to do with other browsers, then I highly recommend using IE9 Tweaker Plus.

If you use Internet Explorer 9, we found a useful program, called IE Tweaker Plus, that allows you to easily tweak and customize over 27 settings in the browser, as well as create customized IE9 shortcuts that automatically open IE in InPrivate mode.

IE9 Tweaker Plus does not need to be installed. To run it, simply extract the .zip file you downloaded (see the link at the end of this article) and double-click on the .exe file.

If the User Account Control dialog box displays, click Yes to continue.

NOTE: You may not see this dialog box, depending on your User Account Control settings.

The IE9 Tweaker Plus v2.0 dialog box displays. The top section allows you to change settings that affect the appearance of the browser and the browsing functions, as well as providing the ability to create a custom homepage, which we’ll cover later in this article.

You can also change security and personal settings using the bottom section. If you use the InPrivate mode in IE often, you can setup a desktop shortcut and a Start menu shortcut that automatically opens IE in InPrivate mode. To set the URL for the page to be opened as your home page in InPrivate mode, click the InPrivate Homepage button in the Security/Personal section.

Enter the URL for the home page you want to use in the edit box. Click Apply and then click Close.

NOTE: To reset the home page for InPrivate mode to the default, click Default Page.

To put a shortcut on the desktop to open IE in InPrivate mode, click InPrivate Desktop Shortcut. You can also add a shortcut for InPrivate mode to the Start menu by clicking InPrivate StartMenu Shortcut.

Select the path to Internet Explorer from the dialog box that displays. The default path should already be selected. If it’s incorrect, select the correct path. Then, select the iexplore.exe file and click Open.

A shortcut is added to your desktop that will open Internet Explorer 9 in InPrivate mode automatically.

IE Tweaker Plus also allows you to create a custom homepage for IE (as well as for other browsers). You can add up to 18 links to websites and a search box to your home page. Click Create A Custom Homepage in the Appearance/Browsing section.

HomePage Maker opens. To add a website to your homepage, enter a name for the homepage in the Enter a Name to display edit box and enter the URL for the page in the Choose or Enter a URL edit box. Click Add to add the site to your homepage. Repeat this for all the sites you want to add.

NOTE: You can click the down arrow on the Choose or Enter a URL edit box to select a predefined URL from the drop-down list.

You can also change the background color or choose to use a custom background image for your homepage.

Change the font, if desired, and select a search engine to add to your homepage, if you want one. To automatically set this as your homepage, select the Set Internet Explorer Homepage check box. Click Create to create your homepage.

The Homepage.htm file is created in the Webpage Files folder in the folder containing the IE9 Tweaker Plus executable.

NOTE: You can make this your homepage for other browsers manually by copying the full path for the Homepage.htm file and entering it as your homepage in the settings for each browser.

To apply the settings selected in IE Tweaker Plus, click Apply. Click Close when you are finished.

To revert back to the default settings, click IE Defaults and then click Apply.
