If you’re using the Windows 8 Mail app, you can add email accounts to the list of accounts that you can use for communication. This is a great way to keep your email address and other contact information organized and easily accessible. To add an email account to the Mail app, open the Accounts pane in the left pane of the app. In the Accounts pane, click on Add Account. The Add Account dialog box will appear. In the Add Account dialog box, enter your name and password for the email account you want to add. If you don’t have a password for an email account, you can create one by clicking on Create Password at the bottom of the Add Account dialog box. The next step is to choose which type of account you want to add: POP or IMAP. POP accounts are used for sending messages through your computer’s mail server; IMAP accounts are used for receiving messages from other computers over a network connection. Next, decide whether you want to add an existing account or create a new one. If you already have an existing account with Windows 8 Mail, select Yes in the Add Account dialog box and then click on Next. If you’re creating a new account, select No in the Add Account dialog box and then click on Finish. When finished adding your new email account, click on OK in the AddAccount dialog box to close it and return to the Accounts pane in left pane of Mail.
When Windows 8 was finally released to everybody they updated the Mail app to support IMAP, which means you now use any generic email account in the Metro Mail app. Here’s how to get set up.
