If you’re a Windows 10 user, you can add OneDrive to the Send To Context Menu in the Windows 10 Settings app. This will let you easily send files and folders to OneDrive from your keyboard or mouse. To add OneDrive to the Send To Context Menu in the Settings app, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app and open the Send To Context Menu option.
- In the Send To Context Menu field, enter “OneDrive.”
- Click on OK to add OneDrive to the context menu.
A free OneDrive account provides 15 GB of online storage and allows you to access files from multiple devices, such as a PC, a smartphone, and a tablet. You can easily copy files to your OneDrive account using the Send To menu in Windows Explorer.
We’ll show you how to add an option to the Send To menu in Windows Explorer so you can quickly and easily transfer files and folders to your OneDrive account from your PC.
If you’re using Windows 8.1, OneDrive is already installed. However, if you’re using Windows 7, you must download OneDrive and install it before following the steps in this article.
In Windows 8.1, press the Windows key + X to access the Tools menu and select Run.
If you’re using Windows 7, once you’ve installed OneDrive, click the Start button and select Run from the right pane on the Start menu.
On the Run dialog box, type the following line into the Open edit box and click OK or press Enter.
The SendTo folder opens in Windows Explorer. Any items placed in this folder are available on the Send To menu. Right-click in any empty space in the right pane and select New | Shortcut from the popup menu.
On the first screen of the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse.
Navigate to OneDrive in the Browse for Files or Folders dialog box, select it, and click OK.
The path to your OneDrive account displays in the Type the location of the item edit box.
NOTE: The path may say SkyDrive rather than OneDrive. SkyDrive was the previous name of OneDrive. The shortcut will still work.
Click Next.
The name OneDrive is automatically entered in the Type a name for this shortcut edit box. You can change the name if you want, but we accepted the default name. Click Finish.
The OneDrive shortcut displays in the SendTo folder.
Navigate to the file(s) or folder(s) in Windows Explorer that you want to transfer to your OneDrive account. Select the file(s) or folder(s), using Shift and Ctrl as needed to select multiple files. Right-click on the selected item(s) and select Send to | OneDrive from the popup menu.
The file is transferred to the root of your OneDrive account because we selected the root when creating the shortcut. You can move it to a different location in your OneDrive account. If you send files to a specific folder in your OneDrive account, you can add that folder as a shortcut on the Send to menu as well using the same procedure outlined in this article.
