If you’re using Windows 10, you may have noticed that the drop shadows in the windows are not always properly disabled. This can cause a lot of problems when it comes to looking good on your screen, especially if you use a lot of graphics-intensive applications. To disable the drop shadows in Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Start menu and type “cmd” (without the quotes).
  2. Type “netstat -an” to see how many connections are open on your computer. If there are too many connections open, then your computer may be overloaded and unable to process any requests. If there are only a few connections open, then netstat -an will show that there is no network traffic going on at all.
  3. If netstat -an shows that there is no network traffic going on at all, then you can try disabling the drop shadows by following these steps:
  4. Type “netcfg” (without the quotes) into the command prompt and press enter. This will show you all of your network settings including your DNS servers and port numbers. You can now change or disable any of these settings if you want to improve performance or reduce load time on your computer.
  5. To disable the drop shadows in Windows 10 permanently, type “netcfg /disable” into the command prompt and press enter. This will take effect immediately and won’t allow you to reenable it until next time you reboot your computer or change your network settings again.

The drop shadows on applications in the Windows 10 preview are really big and suspiciously similar to the ones in OS X, and if they aren’t your speed, you can easily remove them. We actually think they look good, but since somebody out there won’t like them, here is how to disable them.

Open up Control Panel and head to System and Security and then System, and click the Advanced system settings link.

Alternatively you can use the Start Menu and search for “advanced system settings” and click on that item.

From here, go to the Advanced tab and click the Settings button under Performance.

Find and uncheck “Show shadows under windows” and click Apply or OK.

The drop shadows will immediately be removed.
