Two-step authentication is a security feature that allows you to require someone to enter their password twice in order to access a computer or account. This can help protect your data and ensure that your online activities are conducted with the most secure possible environment. To enable two-step authentication on Windows 8 and the Web, you will need to create a new account and set up a password. Once you have done this, you can find the two-step authentication option under the Accounts tab in the Windows 8 user interface. You can then select whether you want to require someone to enter their password twice or just once. If you choose to require someone to enter their password twice, they will need to provide both their username andpassword. If they only provide their username, then the computer will automatically generate a new password for them. If they only provide theirpassword, then they will need to enter it again when they next log in. If you choose not to require someone to enter their password twice, then they will still need to provide both their username andpassword when logging in. However, if they forget their username orpassword for any reason, they won’t be able to access their computer or account until they remember it again.

Microsoft recently rolled out two-factor authentication for Windows Live accounts, and here’s how to enable it.

Enable Two-Step Authentication For Your Windows 8 Account

Head over to the Microsoft Account portal and sign into your account. Then switch over to the security info section, here you will see a link to “Set up two-step verification”. This is more commonly known as two-factor authentication.

You will then be told that some of your apps won’t work after you enable 2FA, but that’s fine. We will help you fix them in an upcoming article, so just click next for now.

You will then need to prove that you are who you say you are by providing a way for them to send you a one time pin. We chose to get a message sent our cellphone.

When you receive the pin, which should only take a few minutes, you will need to enter it on the website.

That’s really all there is to it.

Now whenever you go to sign into your Windows Live account on a non-trusted device, you will be asked for a verification code.
